Jonathan Briggs is the Chief Technology and Innovation Officer at Eastside Preparatory School, where he sits on the Senior Leadership Team and chairs the Academic Operations group. He also advises schools and companies working through questions about technology and learning. He holds a B.A. in physics from Williams College. Before joining EPS in 2005 as its founding Director of Technology, he spent four years at the Bentley School in California teaching math and physics. While there he also chaired the upper school science department, built the master schedule, and coached volleyball and golf.
At EPS he continued teaching for another ten years while establishing the school's technology program and infrastructure. In all, he has taught more than two dozen courses across science, math, programming, and the social sciences. Among them is Evolution of Society, an interdisciplinary course he created with Matt Delaney. That classroom experience still grounds how he approaches the work. His role at EPS is to imagine new programs and projects and hand off the successful ones.
Jonathan has helped guide EPS from forty students to more than five hundred. Along the way he has led the school through a one-to-one laptop program, the move to Canvas, and now the arrival of AI. With the Head of School and Board of Trustees, he sets the school's AI strategy. He also designs technology-enabled learning spaces, develops curriculum, and leads faculty workgroups that try AI tools in their own courses. For twenty years he has built and maintained the software behind the school's academic operations, from its student information system to a curriculum-mapping tool. He speaks and writes regularly about AI and teaching, and his talks, writing, and projects are collected on this site.
